South China University of Technology Building Energy Saving Research Center was founded in 1999, It is the first research institution in the southern region that is specialized in building energy saving technology research, building energy saving components and materials testing, building thermal environment and energy saving design consulting. In 2010, the center was elected as the chairman unit of Guangdong Building Energy Conservation Association. In 2012, he was elected as the chairman of the Building Thermal Engineering and Energy Saving Professional Committee of the Architectural Society of China. He is the first building energy saving testing institution that passed the national metrology certification in China's higher education system, and an important unit of the State Key Laboratory of subtropical Building Science.

After identification, four scientific research achievements have reached the national leading level, The center has presided over and participated in the compilation of 28 national industrial and local building energy conservation standards, including Standards for the Design of the Thermal Environment of Urban Residential Areas, Standards for the Testing Method of the Thermal Environment of Buildings, Assessment System for Green Olympic Buildings, Standards for the Design of Energy Conservation of Residential Buildings in Hot Summer and Warm Winter Areas, and Standards for the Testing of Energy Conservation of Reflective Heat Insulation Coatings for Buildings. The Central Laboratory passed the national metrology certification for the first time in May 2008. It has 7 functional laboratories, including window and wall heat transfer laboratory, thermal conductivity test room, material photothermal performance analysis room, heat and humidity climate wind tunnel laboratory, artificial climate chamber, etc.

Including the application of reflective insulation wall, modular vermiculla green roof, solar photovoltaic driven louver shading, the third generation of aluminum-plastic co-extrusion energy-saving doors and Windows, variable shading coefficient of built-in louver insulating glass, single film shading glass, etc., the development of window + ceiling fan + air conditioning optimization control technology (namely triple control technology), design and construction of subtropical building low-energy experimental building. The energy consumption index is less than 30kwh/m (only 1/4 of the energy consumption of buildings in the climate zone). In summer, the air conditioning room temperature of the building room is set at 28℃, the humidity is less than 70%, and the wind speed of the working face is 0.5-0.8 m/s. Under the condition of thermal comfort, the air conditioning power consumption can be saved by 40%. The low-altitude airship aerial photography technology independently developed by the center provides valuable data for the research of urban thermal environment. The Center attaches great importance to the construction of international academic exchanges and research platforms.

      Since 2003, the center has guided the construction of more than 300 million square meters of new civil building energy conservation projects in hot summer and warm winter areas, and completed the special design of more than 30 national and local key construction projects, including subtropical building energy conservation Laboratory, Guangzhou Asian Games project, Guangzhou University Town, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Sanya International Airport, etc. The Building Energy Conservation Research Center of South China University of Technology adheres to the purpose of external service and the combination of industry, university and research, and will continue to make contributions to the cause of energy conservation and emission reduction in the future.
